In mainland China and Taiwan, Arbor Day is established on March 12 of the Gregorian calendar every year, the anniversary of Sun Yat-sen's death, also known as the anniversary of the death of the founding father. Hong Kong and Macau also hold tree planting activities in March every year. Sun Yat-sen was one of the earliest people in modern Chinese history to advocate afforestation. In his letter to Li Hongzhang in 1894, he proposed "urgently developing agricultural science and emphasizing the cultivation of trees and livestock" as a strategy for China's strength. ...
