Taiwanese Pastry Artists Wang Tian-qing and Shen Fang-chi Win Gold Again at Italian Cake Competition.
Taiwanese fondant art duo Wang Tian-qing and Shen Fang-chi have both secured gold medals at an international cake competition in Italy, successfully defending their titles.
Both accomplished artists now run their own baking studios and serve as instructors at institutions including JUST, Taipei City University of Science and Technology, and Shu-Te University. They are known for incorporating their personal life experiences into their creations. Their award-winning entries are as follows:
• Wang Tian-qing (instructor at JUST and other institutions): Her piece, "Treasures of the National Palace Museum," was inspired by her visits to the museum. Using royal icing, modeling paste, and fondant, she meticulously recreated five precious historical artifacts—such as an imperial consort’s winter court hat and a phoenix coronet adorned with kingfisher feathers—on a series of cupcakes.
• Shen Fang-chi (instructor at JUST and other institutions): Her piece, "Song Dynasty Elegance: Bridal Attire," was inspired by a television series. Through masterful royal icing techniques, she recreated elements of Song Dynasty wedding attire—including the elaborate headdress, crane motifs, and the iconic red *mamianqun* (pleated skirt)—capturing an aesthetic that is both elegant and opulent.
The two pastry artists hope to showcase Taiwanese culture to the world through these international competitions. They are now turning their focus to preparing for upcoming contests in the United Kingdom and Japan.
