JUST Volunteer Chefs Celebrate Double Ninth Festival with Seniors; 103-Year-Old Grandma Cao Yu Wishes for Annual Red Envelopes and Cake. (October 12, in 2026.)
Upholding the spirit of caring for the elderly, the "Xiu-Xiu Big Baby Volunteer Chef Team" at JUST mobilized faculty and students from the Chinese Cuisine & Fruit Carving Club and the Overseas Student Association. On October 12, 2026, they visited the senior service center at the Dapeng Zhongxiao Community in Xindian to host the "Double Ninth Festival & Intergenerational Cooking and Learning" event.
The event featured three core components:
• Hands-on Crafting: Overseas students guided seniors in making DIY four-leaf clover ornaments using pipe cleaners, helping to exercise hand-eye coordination.
• Intergenerational Dining: Faculty and students from the Department of Food and Beverage Management prepared a healthy, low-oil, low-salt lunch for 200 seniors, while community elders also shared their own home-style dishes.
• Double Ninth Birthday Celebration: Faculty, students, and seniors—including 103-year-old Grandma Cao Yu—gathered to cut a cake and celebrate birthdays.
Supported by the Ministry of Education and various foundations, the event fostered a warm atmosphere of intergenerational inclusion.
