Thanks to Chiu Hsiang-ling, the head of Chung Hua Village, for inviting JUST to give a lecture on "Sarcopenia," a topic of great concern to the elderly. The first session was themed #Sarcopenia Elderly Nutrition-#Eat Your Whole Muscle Strength This lecture was given by #JUST Lecturer Chen Pei-Yu, who provided a detailed explanation of what sarcopenia is, how to self-test, and what dietary recommendations are. She also observed that although the elderly generally have a good health awareness and know to go out and socialize, there are still areas where dietary habits need adjustment. She pointed out that many seniors still have the traditional mindset of "saving the best food for the younger generation," such as voluntarily eating the head or tail of fish, neglecting their own balanced need for high-quality protein. Protein is especially important for the elderly, even affecting calcium absorption and daily mobility. Eggs are an readily available and inexpensive high-quality food. She also reminded the elderly that cooking doesn't necessarily require high-heat stir-frying; simple steaming can also provide sufficient nutrition.
