July 12 (Sun.), in 2026, is Taiwan's "Deaf and Mute Day." This day commemorates Annette E. Thompson, an American who dedicated her life to education for the deaf and mute. She founded the first school for the deaf and mute in China. To honor her, Taiwan designated her birthday, July 12, as "Deaf and Mute Day." However, it should be noted that this name is less commonly used now; it is more often referred to as "Deaf People's Day" or celebrated in conjunction with "International Day of the Deaf" (the fourth Sunday of September each year).
