Feeling at Home: JUST Celebrates Winter Solstice Early with Overseas Chinese Students
The chilly weather is gradually arriving, foreshadowing the upcoming Winter Solstice festival. To allow overseas Chinese students to experience the traditional culture symbolizing warmth and reunion, JUST held a lively Winter Solstice Tangyuan (sweet rice ball) gathering on December 17th. The Office of Student Affairs and the Overseas Chinese Students Association meticulously planned games and activities, including tasting sweet and savory tangyuan. Vice President Chen Yi-feng and Dean of Office of Student Affairs Hsieh Shu-fen also attended, offering warm wishes and celebrating the festival early with the overseas Chinese students.
In his speech at the event, Vice President Chen stated that the Winter Solstice is a festival of reunion, and tangyuan represents reunion and completeness. On this day in Taiwan, everyone eats tangyuan, symbolizing family reunion and a fulfilling winter. It also signifies adding a year to one's age after eating tangyuan. He added that the event also included a group photo with representatives from various overseas Chinese communities, holding tangyuan-themed photo booths, representing the university's wishes for students to have sweet and happy lives, everything going smoothly, and happiness every day.
