September 9 is Lawyers' Day in Taiwan, the Republic of China. This holiday is to commemorate the importance of the profession of lawyers. In ancient China, many ordinary people did not know how to write or understand the law, so there was a kind of people called "lawyers" who would help them write petitions and speak for them in court. However, at that time, there was no formal system to protect the rights of lawyers. It was not until the first year of the Republic of China (1912) that the central government formulated the rules for lawyers for the first time, officially giving birth to the profession of lawyers.
