White Valentine's Day originated in Japan. The most common saying is that in 1977, a Japanese confectionery shop "Ishimura Manseido" in Fukuoka City, Japan, created a holiday to stimulate sales. They created the trend of "March 14 is the day to return gifts to loved ones" to promote their own products. Since the sugar used in candy is white, it was eventually renamed "White Valentine's Day". Later, even chocolate manufacturers began to promote white chocolate, which became one of the popular gifts.
