2025/08/08 (Fri.) Father’s Day
On August 8, 1945, as the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression drew to a close, patriotic people in Shanghai initiated Father's Day to commemorate the fathers who sacrificed their lives for their country on the battlefield. After the war, Shanghai celebrities and gentry pushed for Father's Day to be listed as an official holiday, and the government also issued a decree that August 8th of each year would be Father's Day. This is not only because of the homophony, but also because the Chinese characters "eight eight" together look like the character "father", which has cultural significance.
