In 1995, UNESCO designated April 23 as World Book and Copyright Day. Other Chinese translations include World Reading Day, and World Book Day. On April 23, 1616, Cervantes and Shakespeare died. April 23 is also associated with the birth and death of other great authors, such as Inca Garcilaso de la Vega, Vladimir Nabokov, Halldor Laxness, Maurice Tuon, José Bulla and Manuel Vallejo.
